The debut album of one of the most famous bands from the 90's.
I was wondering the other day about the number of acclaimed albums released in 1991.Rummy thing you know.I keep hitting
these albums from this year you know.Rummy year.Of course it was the year of the Nevermind juggernaut after which everything
changed.People were sick of Pop metal.Rap had begun to rear it's ugly head and people instead of reading some instructive
book sat and watched MTV all day long. All kinds of shitty music.I was watching that channel,what's-it's-name,this one.what?!Oh
yeah VH1 it is called.(people who know me would say it is unusual,I can do without TV for months at a stretch.)The idiots
didn't play one good song for hours. They kept playing Melanie C,50 cents of all horrors.Oh yeah, they played somebody called
Cassidy which made me feel that Eminem and Britney Spears are not the baddest thing to happen to music. In fact i would rather
listen to pure disco beats rather than this shit I named .No,sorry I would prefer not hearing anything rather than listen
to all that shit that comes on this shitty channel.
Well where were we?Oh yeah,Pearl jam.I told you that this was their debut.Right let's get on with it.
Now Eddie.Yes, this guy has a far more pleasant voice then any other 90's singer.Kurt Cobain could make his voice listenable
,Michael Stipe has a great voice,(would you call him a 90's guy?)But these are oasises in the desert.People want to shout
as much as they can.Bad of 'em.See i am digressing a lot because this is my first review after a long time, quite busy i was,and
I want to get in the way of the thing.
The first two songs are OK.One habit that Pearl Jam have got is Eddie repeating ONCE!ONCE! (in the first song) a lot
of times.Noisy they are too.Grunge they are not.Because they don't sound grunge to me.Not enough noise, you see.Good singer
too.Clean guitars.Drumming lighter, lots of sweet spots the drummer hits, when the chorus is going strong and everybody is
                                             having a good time.
The best song is Alive.Best by quite a fair margin which is shown by the fact that this is one song I want to listen
to again and again. Jeremy is a good song too but it ain't half so catchy and good sounding as Alive. It's the kind of
song you will find good the first time around. Why go I find good too.'Why go home!" catchy rhythm!Good chorus! This band
has potential! But then Black brings us down with a bang. One of those idiotic ballads that one wouldn't want to listen to even
if one is doing something and playing music in the background.Serious side, you know.Gets you critically acclaimed.
Oceans.Yes I find that song a good one.Soft ,yeah, but every one is playing fine with Eddie using his voice to good effect. The
baddest song on record and really the only song you want to skip while listening is Deep.No ideas or direction. If we wanted
complex structures, uncatchy songs we will go to Prog, thank you guys.Ends the same way it started with the music suggesting
some Tribal dance in the jungle.
Nothin' great or groundbreaking except for Alive, but a good listen.Fair.Lays the foundation for what is to come.

After 5 weeks-I have come to like the album a lot more. The songs are sounding better,a lot better.I still think that
                                             Deep is a crappy song.
